Artist. Born in York, England, he moved to London, where he was a close friend of writer Oscar Wilde and American painter John Singer Sargent. Made a member of the Royal Academy in 1914, his paintings, often reflecting young boys sailing, swimming and diving, include "Our Jack," "All Hands to the Pump!," "August Blue," "Cupid and Sea Nymphs," "Noonday Heat," "Two Boys on a Beach," "Ruby, Gold and Malachite" and "Aquamarine."
