Alvin Franklin Bishop, Jr., 69, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Medical Center – Navicent Health in Macon.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Jack Perrin officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 PM, Friday, in the Bishop Chapel Church Cemetery, in Emanuel County, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Bishop was born July 12, 1946, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to the late Alvin Franklin Bishop, Sr. & Ada Ruth Garland Bishop. He lived in the community most of his life and honorably served in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War. He retired after 28 years of service from General Telephone Company. Mr. Bishop was an avid NASCAR fan and he enjoyed barbequing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Pine Level Lodge #353 F.&A.M. and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his companion of 22 years, Essie Rowell Liddy of Fitzgerald; two step-children: Connie F. Phillipy & Charles of Moultrie and Hayward Flynt of Fontana, California; a sister, Exalva B. Balas & Jerry of Cummings; a sister-in-law, Linda Bryant Bishop of Ellijay; a dear friend, Eileen Fletcher Dozier of Fitzgerald; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Glenn Bishop and a sister: Ola Dean Bishop Belger.
