Della Elizabeth "Libby" Acker, 77, of Rushville, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born on May 15, 1926, in Schuyler County, the daughter of the late Earl and Blanche (Osborne) Dixon. She married Thomas H. Acker on April 20, 1946, in Havana. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1983.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Ward (husband, Richard) of Rushville; two sons, Thomas E. Acker (wife, Susan) of Rushville and James L. Acker of Browning; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Dixon, and two sisters, Priscilla Bucher and Dolores Jenkins.
She worked with her husband on the family farm and also at the Schuyler School District junior high cafeteria. Later she was a clerk at Ball Variety in Rushville. She also worked for the Secretary of State's office in Springfield, retiring after 10 years of service.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, the Schuyler American Legion Auxiliary, and Schuyler County Democrats. She enjoyed cooking, reading, taking walks and gardening.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Mary Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Cass-Schuyler Home Health Care.
