Claude was living with his parents when he enlisted in the Marines 20 March 1956, at a Louisville Recruiting Office. While stationed in CA with the Marines he re-enlisted 5 August 1966, at the San Diego MCRD.
Claude arrived in Vietnam 28 April 1967 and was assigned to CAP Hotel-6, CACO Hotel, 3rd CAG Combined Action, III MAF. While at their base camp in Nuoc Ngot Village and 6 kilometers east of Phu Loc, his unit was attacked by hostile
forces. Claude died of 3rd degree burns from a hostile explosive device.
SSgt Dorris served his country for 10 years.
Survived byhis wife, Helen P Dorris and a son; Eric P Morris of Pico Rivera, CA and his parents; Claude and Mary S Dorris of Louisville, KY.
Posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
