Reverend Michael R. Koch entered eternal life Thursday, February 24, 2017, at the age of 87, at St. Mary's Home at Felician Village, Manitowoc.Father Koch was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Michael J. and Phoebe Ann (Stoneman) Koch. He had three brothers and six sisters. Following high school and the first two years of college in St. Nazianz, he studied philosophy and theology at St. Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1953 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona. Father Koch served as Assistant at St. Patrick Parish, Menasha, from 1953 to 1965. From 1965 to 1971, he served as Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Pine Grove. He was Pastor of St. Mark Parish, Two Rivers from 1971 to 1976. From 1976 to 1995, he served as Chaplain and later Director of Pastoral Care at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. For twenty years, beginning in 1978, he served as Coordinator of Health Affairs for the Diocese of Green Bay. From 1989 to 2007, Father served as Chaplain to the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Oshkosh. During his time in Oshkosh, he served at Temporary Administrator at times at St. Vincent de Paul Parish and St. Peter Parish. From 2007 to 2012, Father Koch served as Chaplain at the McCormick Memorial Home in Green Bay. During his ministry, Father also served as a Field Advocate for the Marriage Tribunal, as Chaplain of the Oshkosh Serra Club, and as Regional Vicar. His last years were at Felician Village in Manitowoc.He is survived by three sisters: Patricia Boring of Kenosha, Carol Martin of Two Rivers and Dorothy (Thalmas) Rappley of Two Rivers; special nephew: Rev. David Koch; special niece: Sr. Donna Koch; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers: twin brothers, DePaul (Bernadette) Koch, Vincent (Rita) and (Eileen) Koch, Elmer (Lucille) Koch and Aloysius Koch; four sisters: Eva (Lester) Mach, Kathryn (Ted) Gorny, Mary Jane (Edward) Geiger and JoAnn Ploeckelman; and two brothers-in-law: Earl Martin and William Boring.Visitation for Father Koch will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 423 S. Main St., Mishicot, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017.The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord's Resurrection, will take place on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 423 S. Main Street, Mishicot, with Most Reverend David L. Ricken as the Celebrant, joined by concelebrant priests. Reverend David Koch is homilist. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
