Marshall Lindsey "M. L." Lumpkins was the eldest son of Paris Lindsey "Buck" Lumpkins and his second wife, Flora Katherine LaCroix. Uncle Paris was a veteran of WWI.

He was the paternal grandson of James Franklin "Frank" and Anna Lou "Annie" Grimes Lumpkins and the maternal grandson of John William and Mary Alice Hughes LaCroix.

M. L. was killed in Luxembourg during the Ardennes Offensive of WWII. He died on Christmas Eve, just six days after turning 21.
