SUPERINTENDENT OF GRAVEL PIT KILLED
Earl McGill Dies of Injuries Received While Working at Malvern.
-Special to the Gazette.
Malvern, Oct 4 - Earle McGill aged 28, superintendent of the Malvern gravel pit was fatally injured here about 8 this morning. He came here from Benton four months ago.
Superintendent McGill was standing on top of the car of gravel and gave two signals for the gravel to be dumped into the hopper. As the gravel started on the belt conveyor, McGill apparently lost his balance and was caught on the iron braces of the hopper and the entire load of gravel fell on top of him. Employees believed that he was killed outright but when they extricated him, signs of life were apparent. Artificial respiration was given and he was rushed to the Hot Springs county general hospital, where he died about 12 o'clock.
Mr. McGill is survived by his wife [Lexie] and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion McGill and one sister, Mrs. V. A. Rucker, and four brothers, Louis, Herman, Olan and Bertie McGill, all of Benton. The body is being held at Smith funeral home pending funeral arrangements.
