Following service a Celebration of his life will be held at the Gomez residence, 2231 Jewetta Ave. James Goodchild of Bakersfield, went to be with our Lord on October 27, 2006, after a lengthy battle with cancer. James was born to Alan Paul Goodchild and Juanita Brown on January 15, 1943. He was raised in Santa Maria, attended St. Mary's and Santa Maria High School, graduating with the class of 1961. Jim did his military service in the Navy Reserves. He worked several jobs in the Santa Maria area, before taking employment in the Middle East, after his return, Jim settled in Florida for several years before returning to California. Upon returning to California, Jim spent several years with Pool Well Service in Santa Maria before transferring to Bakersfield, after a time with Pool, Jim left to do what he'd always wanted to do, drive an 18 wheeler. He began driving for Cox Petroleum Transport in Bakersfield for many years. This is what Jim enjoyed the most in life was being on the highway behind the wheel of his truck. After sometime Jim bought his own truck with thoughts of starting his own company. Soon after, Jim was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, however, continued to drive while receiving chemotherapy. His truck was only one of his passions, among others were tending his beautiful roses, wearing cowboy boots, and enjoying a beer with his best friend, Al. After a courageous three-year battle, with the medical staff at UCLA in awe of Jim's amazing strength, Jim succumbed to his illness.
