A shotgun in the hands of a playmate brought death to Edwin Humphrey, at the family home, Tenth and Carrolton streets, Thursday morning. The accident occurred shortly after 7 o'clock, the wound inflected resulting in death at 12:30 o' clock Thursday afternoon.
According to testimony taken in an inquest held by Justice of the Peace P.R. Ford, Edwin together with two boy playmates of about the same age, Verdie Freeman and Frank Harris, were in the yard of the Freeman home which ajoins the Humphrey home on the North. A small caliber shotgun, the property of Frank Harris, was being examined by the boys and had just been handed by Edwin to the Harris boy when it discharged, the shot taking effect in the abdomen.
Immediate medical aid was rushed to the house and every effort made to save the life, but the wound pronounced fatal at once by attending surgeons resulted in death shortly afternoon.
After examining several witnesses Justice Ford ordered a verdict of death due to accidental discharge of a firearm.
Funeral services will be held from the family home Friday morning at 10:30 o' clock, Dr. Millard A. Jenkens pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
The family home was at 7 O'Sage which is now 7th and Merchant St.
