WILLIAM T. McFARLAND OBITUARY

Wm. T. McFarland Dies Here Thursday
------------------
Had Been Bedfast for Several Months; Suffered Greatly

William T. McFarland passed from this life at his home in Syracuse between the hours of four and five o’clock Thursday morning, after several month’s of illness, the last few months of which he was bedfast. He was born August 11th, 1878.
The younger years of his life McFarland spent on a farm near Syracuse, until his parents moved to town. He attended the Syracuse public schools, later going into the livery business.
For many years he was a hard working and industrious farmer. He gave up farming and engaged in buying and selling horses. He was a shrewd trader and an excellent judge of horse flesh. During the World War he bot (sic) horses and mules for the government.
All his life was spent in Otoe county where he was widely known and had many friends. He was known to most of them as “Billie”.
Last December he was taken very sick with the flu and previous to that time had been in ailing health for two years. He never regained strength from the flu and was bedfast most of the time. Three weeks ago he returned home from the University hospital where he had been taken for observation and treatment. It was thought at that time he was better, but as time wore on he became weaker and had to be kept under opiates until his death.
He is survived by one brother, John H. of Los Angeles, Calif., two uncles and a number of cousins. His father, one sister, Jennie (Eaton) and a brother, Etsen died a number of years ago. His mother died February 13 1932.
The remains lie at rest at Tonsing’s funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00, at Tonsing’s funeral chapel. Interment in Park Hill beside his mother.
