Jerry D. Blessing of Mechanicsville Mourned by Large Number

MECHANICSVILLE, Iowa, Oct. 16--Jerry D. Blessing, aged 71, who died in a Cedar Rapids hospital Oct. 11 was a veteran of the civil war and for a great many years a citizen of this community. He had been in ill health for some time but up to about a week ago was able to be around town.
His funeral at the Methodist church Monday was attended by one of the largest crowds here for some time.
Representatives were present from G.A.R. posts at Mt. Vernon, Lisbon, Stanwood and Tipton. The sermon was preached by Rev. J. Ballz, formerly pastor at this place, and was assisted in the ceremonies by Rev. J. G. Cardy of the Presbyterian church and Rev. W. R. Davis, present pastor of the Methodist church of which Mr. Blessing was an official member.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, two sons, six sisters and two brothers, besides a large circle of relatives and friends.
