For several years he farmed in the Lisbon area. Later he was employed at Bristol Grain and Feed Company, Farmers State Bank of Yorkville, and administrator of Applewood Nursing Home in Matteson.
They moved back to Morris in 1990. During his retirement years he drove cars part-time for Greenway Motors. He was a faithful member of West Lisbon Lutheran Church and former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Matteson, member of the Matteson Rotary Club, and former president of Lisbon School Board. He was a die hard Cubs fan, an avid fisherman, loved to golf, bowl and loved life to the fullest and helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of 58 years; three sons, Steven Patterson, Byron, Daryl (Anne) Patterson, Chandler, Ariz., and Rodney (Melanie) Patterson, Diamond Bar, Calif.; two daughters, Gayle (David) Murley, Minooka and Sheila (Keith) Welker, Renfrew, Penn.; grandchildren, Angela and Stacey Patterson, Rachel and Kevin Patterson, Jasmine and Stuart Grady, Renee and Victoria Patterson, Scott (Denise) Jacobson, Cody Murley, Lisa, Anthony and Nicholas Balestrino, Renee, Hannah and Lea Welker; one sister, Blanche (Robert) Cinotto, Morris; two sisters-in-law, Inez (LaVerne) Patterson, Florida and Regina (Kenneth) Patterson, Tennessee; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Eunice Hall, Morris; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LaVerne "Buddy" and Kenneth Patterson; two sisters, Mary Kloock and Mildred Viara. He was joined in death by his brother-in-law, Wayne Ness.
