Sweetwater - Neely D. Reeves, 89, well-known resident of Sweetwater since 1924, died at 5:15 a.m. Friday following a lengthy illness.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cate-Spencer Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Orvel Brantley, pastor of Lamar Street Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Larry Fluitt, minister of the Lamar Street Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Halbert, Charles Nunn, Gerald Byrd, Gene Graves, M. H. Templeton and Pat Mays.
Born April 7, 1881 in Hope, Ark., he was a resident of Sweetwater since 1924.
He was constable for 15 years in the sheriff's department as office deputy and served ten months as county judge, filling the unexpired term of Judge Delas Reeves (no kin). He married Eula Nesminger on April 27, 1935 in Sweetwater.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, W. F. (Dub) of Sweetwater and Leon of Odessa; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Witt of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Noelia Joe Witherspoon of Charlotte, N.C., and Mrs. Leon Lamm of Sweetwater; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Murworth of Dallas, Mrs. Becca Murworth of Bonham and Mrs. Nancy Murphy of Marshall; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
