David was the son of J.F. Benton (born in MO) and Nancy Anne Smothers (born in Texas).

He lived in Union County, NM for 33 years.

He married Sadie W. Means in 1901. She preceded him in death on April 28, 1927. They had 6 children; 3 preceded him in death: Charley Andrew, who passed away on April 28, 1934 and twins who passed away in infancy.

He is survived by 3 daughters: Mrs. Ethel Blanche King, Cunningham, KS; Mrs. Edna Lillie Faircloth, Clayton, NM and Mrs. Birdelle Beatrice Smith, Springer, NM; brother, John Tabor, Union City, OK; and by a sister, Lillie McReynolds, Sweetwater, TX.
