Calvin W. Menges, 103, of Watsontown, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Watsontown Health and Rehab where he had been residing since November.

Born August 9, 1912 in Montour County, he was the son of the late George and Rosa E. (Gresh) Menges. On July 30, 1940 he married the former Helen L. Russell and they celebrated 61 years of marriage until her death on January 2, 2002.

Mr. Menges graduated from Turbotville High School and graduated from the former Bloomsburg Teachers College two-year program in 1933, and their four-year program in 1940. He began his teaching career in one-room schools in Paradise and Dividing Ridge and then taught for 37 years for the Warrior Run School District. He also farmed the family farm in rural Watsontown most of his lifetime.

He was a member of the Elk Run Hunting Club, the Watsontown Lodge #401 F&AM, and the Williamsport Consistory. He was the oldest member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law: Ted R. and Shirley Menges, and Harris E. and Deborah Menges and a daughter, Charlotte A. Menges, all of Watsontown; six grandchildren: Brian, John and his wife Karen, Rachel, David and his wife Mary, Christopher and his wife Tonya, and Patrick and his wife Kristen Menges; and five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Derek, Morgan, Parker, and Joey Menges.

Preceding him in death besides his wife were two grandchildren: Michael David and Rebecca Ann Menges, and a step-great-grandson, Luque Jordan Petersheim in 2001.

Friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday from 10 to 11AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 39 Paradise Street, Turbotville where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Erwin C. Roux, his pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Turbotville Cemtery.

Watsontown Lodge #401 F&AM will conduct a memorial service at the church on Saturday at 9:45 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Calvin's memory be made to either his church at PO Box 277, Turbotville, PA 1772 or Evangelical Hospice, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc, PC, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville.
