(The Rock Island Argus - June 25, 1887)
Chas. Milow, a teamster, was driving a heavily loaded wagon out of the alley in the rear of J. & M. Rosenfield's store this afternoon at 2:45, when he fell out of the wagon and down in front of the wheels, one of them passing partly over his side. Drs. Plummer and Eyster attended him, and it was evident that he had suffered serious internal injuries.
At 3 o'clock Milow died on the sidewalk in front of Koch's gunsmith shop, his back having been broken by the wheel. It seems that Milow mounted the wagon and reached forward to grasp the reins when the horses started up;; the board on which he was seated, slipped down and he fell, first on the horses and then down under the wheel, which struck him in the side and pushed him along, but did not pass over him. Dr. Eyster says, however, his back was broken. He was placed on a wagon and conveyed to his home, 827 Sixth avenue. He was about fifty-five years old, and leaves a wife and seven children. Coroner Hawes was summoned and is holding an inquest.
