He was born in Austin, Travis, Texas to parents Bailey E. Daugherty and Sarah Pichot Daugherty Freeman. He attended Pease, Allen Jr. High, Austin High and the University of Texas. He joined the Navy and after his return home he began his career in education teaching and coaching at Dripping Springs High School. He later moved his family to California and continued his education with a Masters degree and teaching there. He was principal of Silverado High school when he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brothers Henry Lee and Louis Nicholas Daugherty and his son Jeffrey Lynn Daugherty.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Loo Daugherty

Grandchildren, Delayna Coulson, Aaron Coulson wife Jamie, Curtis Caputo and wife Rebecca and Vanessa Caputo, great/grandchildren Brooklyn Tammen, Jesse, Justin, Jason, James Coulson and Julian Caputo. great great/grandchildren Jaden and Matthew Coulson.
A visitation, luncheon were held and burial was at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
