Damon Reach, 71, 642 Indian Hill Drive, Herrin, died at 9:35 pm Saturday, May 31, 1980 in Herrin Hospital. He was born May 2, 1909 in Centreville to H.W. Reach and Susan Walker. He married Vera Thorpe in 1928 and she survives. Other survivors include sons, Darryl and Dale Reach, both of Herrin, sister Mrs. Willard Mills of Johnston City, brother, Walker Reach of Wautaca WI and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Damon Reach and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Myhre.
Reach was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Herrin First Baptist Church. He was a teacher in Herrin School system for 19 years. He was a professor of Education at Northern Illinois University from 1956 to 1974. Funeral services will be in Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Maurice Swinford and burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
