Gavyn Lee Gladney was granted his angel wings on June 14, 2016.
Gavyn’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of his existence greatly exceeded the quantity of time he was given. His ever-present smile would melt the hearts of those around him. He had been breaking nurses’ hearts since his birth on Dec. 16, 2008. Though he knew few words, his voice could always be heard. Gavyn’s grandma, Tonnia, was the first person to hold Gavyn in her arms, and he rests in her arms now. Music was always in his life; he loved to bounce and sing. Gavyn loved water and swimming; he was quite a little fish when given the chance. He loved spending time with his Papa John. They were the best of buddies. After years of inability to be in the sunshine, he was recently able to withstand the heat and he loved it. He would seek out the sunniest spot and bask in the warmth and light. He loved his Auntie Elaine. He was always so happy to see his sister, Bella. His mama, Amy’s, life began the day Gavyn was born, and together they were a mighty force to be reckoned with. The love and joy between them was endless. He loved his daddy, Nick; they loved trucks and cars, and he hated being away from Daddy. Nick was his protector. Gavyn was our light; he could not be without a smile. If he saw you coming, he would meet you with a smile that would light up a thousand nights. Gavyn leaves behind his parents, Amy and Nick; his grandfather, John; his aunt, Elaine; his special grandma, Tracy; great-grandma, Carol Stradinger; many cousins, uncles, great-aunts and uncles; his sister, Ysabella; Matt Alley, Tammy, Cam, Tiffany, and lots of other family and friends. We are grateful to his caregivers, nurses, therapists and teachers. You provided much love, support and dignity that enriched Gavyn’s life greatly. With Gavyn’s passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. We will miss his sweet, bright smile every day, but he will remain ever in our hearts. We are so grateful for the wonderful, dear memories we have together, and it has been our greatest honor and privilege to be his parents. Our celebration of Gavyn’s life will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at George McCarthy Funeral Home. In honor of the joy that Gavyn gave us, we are encouraging guests to wear bright colors to the service. The family will have a reception following the service.
