Chalmers Max Crowell, age 68 years old, of Acworth, GA, died on June 3, 2016. Chalmers was born January 28, 1948, in Sanford, Florida. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Gretchen Lewis Crowell of Sanford, FL, Johnny Crowell of Charlotte, NC, and his special friend, Ms. Gaye Clay of Atlanta, GA.

Graveside services were held at Sanford Cemetary where other members of his family were also buried. Arrangements were handled by Gramkow Funeral Home and Crematory in Sanford.

In semi-retirement, Chalmers was still doing assignments for Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd, the Christian Film and Television Commission, and for Communities Magazine’s website, AtlantaCommunities.com. Chalmers was a camera man and Art Director for WCTV in Tallahassee for 13 years, and was Art Director for Communities Magazine in Atlanta, GA, for 30 years.

Chalmers’ passions included vintage aircraft, automobile racing, photography, and he was an accomplished oil painter. His subjects included sports cars and military aircraft, following in the footsteps of his father, a noted barnstormer in the early 1900’s.

In addition, Chalmers was a winning autocross racer in his Corvair and Fiat X1/9, and was the Crew Chief for the Communities Magazine Racing Team for more than a decade.

Chalmers graduated from Seminole High School in 1966, attended Florida State University and was a lifelong Methodist.

Chalmers is survived by his twin brother, William “Bill” Crowell of Tallahassee, FL, who asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Sanford History Museum or the American Cancer Society.
