Custer County Republican (Broken Bow, NE) June 7, 1888 Thursday

DIED--June 6th, 1888, at the residence of J. R. Street, Robert Ellison, of inflamation [sic] of the stomach. Two weeks ago yesterday, the deceased came to town after medicine, and was taken violently while here and had to be assisted to go home, at which place he never arrived. On the way he stopped at the home of J. R. Street, a son-in-law, where he has remained during his sickness. He has been a resident of the county about four years. He was a member of the U. B. church, and passed away exhorting his friends standing by his bedside, to remain faithful to the end. Mr. Ellison was an old soldier, and died from the effects of disease, contracted while in the army. He was buried to-day, at 10 a.m., in the Custer Center cemetery.

Custer County Republican October 4, 1888:

On Sabbath the 30th inst. the pulpit at Custer Center church was filled by Elder Wilson, of Illinois, who expects soon to move to his farm on the north table. He is a good speaker of no mean ability and we gladly welcome him to our midst. The afternoon service was conducted by the pastor, G. F. Deal, which was the memorial service of Robert Ellison who died last June.

----------------------------------------

Mr. Ellison took a homestead upon settling in Custer County. His arrival his mentioned in a Broken Bow newspaper:

Robert Ellison, who arrived here from Illinois last week, has located on the north table land, and is well pleased with our country. Mr. E. informs us that more are to follow soon. Three of Mr. Ellison's daughters and a son, and two of M. F. Blankenship's children are down with the measles, but under the treatment of a physician from Broken Bow, they are pulling through all right. [Custer County Republican April 12, 1883]
