Clarence "Joe" Abare, 86, Baker Road, died Saturday morning at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, where he had been a patient since Oct. 13.

Mr. Abare was a mechanic at Ballard Mills for several years before retiring in 1982.

Born Sept. 2, 1920, in Belmont, he was a son of Samuel and Elsie Garrow Abare.

He married Norma A. LaPlante on Aug. 8, 1943, at St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert, and a brother, Berton, both of Malone, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Gail Abare, were killed in an automobile accident during their honeymoon in Quebec in 1967. A brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Doris Abare, also died before him.
