Bettie was born November 30, 1925, in Richmond, Kentucky to Celia (Grant) and Coleman Moores.
Bettie graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and attended Rice University. She married W. Dow Hamm, Jr. on August 19, 1944 in Houston. Bettie and Dow celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in August of 2010.
Bettie dedicated her life to her family and her beloved husband, Dow. Bettie loved art, flowers and antiques and her home and surroundings always reflected beauty. Bettie was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland, the Midland Junior League, the Midland Racquet Club, and the Rake and Spade Garden Club. Bettie was a member of the "Secret Six", a group of dear friends who faithfully met for lunch each Tuesday for 35 years. Born in Kentucky and raised in Texas, Bettie was named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include husband, W. Dow Hamm, Jr. of Midland; son, W. Dow Hamm, III and wife Janice of Kingwood; daughter, Mary Helen Phillips and husband Rick of New Braunfels; daughter, Nancy Lindell and partner Peter Botes of Midland; son, David M. Hamm of San Antonio; grandchildren, Chris Hamm and wife Stephanie of Austin, Katherine Hamm and Courtney Hawkes, both of Houston, Colin Hamm of Kingwood, and Megan Brignon and husband Nate of Midland; great grandchildren, Isabella de los Santos of Houston, Bella Hamm and Sawyer Hamm, both of Austin, and Benjamin Brignon of Midland; brother, Richard Neat Moores of Anchorage, Kentucky; sister, Eloise Wiseman of Lexington, Kentucky; and brother, Tom Moores of Richmond, Kentucky.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Midland, Inc. or to The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland.
