Formerly of Canton-Alice Mae Blackmer, 88, died June 19, 2016 at United Helpers Riverledge in Ogdensburg.
Alice was born Feb. 21, 1928 in Canton, daughter of Harold J and Olive Moore Matthews. She graduated from Canton schools and on Sep. 12, 1946, she married Paul Blackmer at the Canton Methodist Parsonage. Mr. Blackmer died Dec. 14, 1992. She worked as a bookkeeper for Morris Pinto in Canton and Potsdam.
Alice is survived by her son Edward P Blackmer and wife, Peggy of Hammond; three siblings, Roland S and Duane C Matthews and Ellen Janack; 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul and siblings, Harold W Matthews, Howard Matthews, Merton Matthews and Bettie V Gilson.
Alice was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Massena, the Disabled American Veterans, Ogdensburg and Life Ex POW, Norfolk. Services at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton with Rev. Michael H Terrell officiating. A graveside ceremony at Beech Plains Cemetery.
