Local Florists
Born March 27, 1919 to George Banta, Jr., and Margaret Killen Banta, in Menasha, Wisconsin. Died June 14, 2016 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

She was always known as Peg, but insisted that she would have preferred to have been known as Margaret. She was a proud and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Peg was always a straight-A student, and was valedictorian of her 1937 class at Milwaukee Downer Seminary. She graduated valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude from Lawrence College (now Lawrence University) in 1941. As well, she was a member of Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa. She was a member of the Alpha Psi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, and remained a loyal Theta throughout her long life. Post college, Peg graduated from Katherine Gibbs School, Boston, MA, where she received the only “B” in her entire academic career; it was in typing. After Gibbs, Peg took a job as Private Secretary to the Editor of the Pilgrim Press in Boston, and later became Secretary to the Dean of Men at Lawrence College during WWII.

Peg married Peter Dahl Humleker, Jr. on April 20, 1943. Together, they raised five children: Peter Dahl Humleker, III,(deceased), George Banta Humleker (Terry), William Overby Humleker (Jana), Margaret McGregor Humleker, and Anne Killen Humleker Heintz (Les).

Peg joined the First Presbyterian Church of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin when she and Pete moved there following WWII. She was a solid alto in the church choir for many years, and served as a church Trustee. She was a member of Chapter BD of the P.E.O. Sisterhood , and served as Chairman of its State Convention in 1965. She was twice State President of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Wisconsin, and on the Wisconsin Society’s behalf, served as Regent, and then Regent Emeritus for Gunston Hall, home of George Mason of Virginia. Gunston Hall is an historic museum house near Washington, D.C., administered by the Colonial Dames. Peg was a direct Mason descendent. She served on the Board of Curators of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, of which her father had been President. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin History Foundation. Peg served as Trustee of Lawrence University, as well as enjoyed her association with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin where she was a member of their Children’s Circle of Care. Peg was proud to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Banta Company, founded by her grandfather, George Banta, Sr., in Menasha, Wisconsin in 1901.

Peg’s long and beautiful life was made ever so much better in her twilight years by the concern and love of a number of care-givers and helpers; none more so than Jerry Bonlander and Jennifer Triatik. Her family is enormously grateful for their wonderful devotion.
