She married Raymond King in 1958 and had two children, Michael (b. 1959) and Colleen (b. 1960). Around 1970, the family moved to Gastonia, so that Ray could start a new branch of Globe Manufacturing in the South. She would later go on to receive a degree in counselling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and would work much of the rest of her life as a counselor at the hospital.
Carol passed away in spring of 2004, a victim of brain cancer. She was buried at Belmont Abbey College, which she and her husband had been active supporters of since their moving to Gastonia.
