Anna Zehr, 86, of Fort Dodge died Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Heritage Apartments, Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 10th at the Evangelical Mennonite Church with Rev. Larry Evers officiating. Following the funeral service, Anna's wishes were to be cremated. A private burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Manson. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.
Surviving is her husband Leland; their children and spouses, Hal and Joanne Zehr of Green River, WY, Carolyn and Jerry Uhlenbrock of Loveland, CO, Judy and Marvin Heinze of Manson; daughter-in-law, Joyce Zehr-Burke, of Fort Dodge; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilford Birky of Lebanon, OR and Loren Birky of Frazee, MN. Anna was preceded in death by her parents Simon and Lena (Grieser) Birky, two sons, Jerry and Ronald Zehr, and a brother, Lyle Birky.
Anna I. Birky was born October 12, 1920 in Beemer, NE. On January 3, 1943 she was united in marriage to Leland Zehr in Beemer, NE. They established their home in Beemer until 1951 when they moved to Manson and later they moved to Fort Dodge. For over 28 years Anna was a volunteer at Trinity Regional Medical Center. In 2004 she was the recipient of the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award.
She was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church, a long-time member and former board member of the Trinity Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of Fort Dodge, Trinity Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, or to the Evangelical Mennonite Church.
