Bessie Mable Travis was age four when her mother died in 1898. Bessie's father, George, did not remarry and took care of Bessie and her three siblings, Elmer, Annie and
Eron "Erin".

1910 Henry County, TN census reports Bessie M.Travis, age 15, is the only child still at home with her father. Her siblings have married. Erin married (1907) Lonnie Guy Arnold, a cattle stockman. They decided to move to Oklahoma and Bessie moved with them.

1911 they settled in Coweta, Wagoner County, Oklahoma. There, Bessie met and married Charles Leslie Carter, a farmer, 16 Oct 1912, Wagoner, Wagoner County, OK. Their first child, Charles Travis Carter, was born
26 October 1913, Shahan Township. Daughter, Annie Gwendolyn Carter, was born 29 Apr 1917. Erin and Guy's first child, Verna Elva, was born in Coweta 5 May 1912. About 1914 the
Arnold family moved back to Henry County. After births of Robert G.and Bessie Lee, Guy and Erin moved to Pinon, Otero County, New Mexico. In 1917 Guy registered for WWI draft,
Chaves,New Mexico. Daughter Myrtle A. was born 1919 in Pinon. Guy died 1920 and was buried in Pinon Cemetery.
Erin and children returned to Henry County and lived with her father. George T. Travis died of heart disease in 1931. He was buried in Butler Cemetery, Weakley County, TN where his wife, Ellen Emma (Butler) Travis is buried.
