As a child he spent many of his summers in Manomet and as an adult he continued to visit frequently.
Mr. Eaton was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the medical corps and was stationed in various hospitals in the United States as well as the Pacific theater.
Following his discharge, he moved to Salem and joined his uncle, Elmer Eaton, at the Eaton Apothecary, as a pharmacist. Bob was active and a member of the Masons and Shrine, including the Starr King Lodge of Salem, Amity Lodge of Danvers, the North Shore Shrine Club and the Aleppo Temple. He was also a member and volunteer at the Peabody Essex Museum of Salem,, the Traditional Small Craft, AARP of Salem and was a shipwright involved in the rigging and completion of the Sloop Friendship as well as the construction of the Captain's gig at the National Park Service, Salem Maritime center.
He was a member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem from where he sailed and moored his sailboat VAGABONDIA.
An accomplished woodworker, he also crafted small dories and sailboats from "scratch" which he would then paint and rig for display.
An avid gardener, he grew various varieties of vegetables which he gave to neighbors and friends.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Eaton is survived by a brother William and his wife Jean Eaton of Watertown; many niece and nephews and a wonderful friend Robert Hiltunen.
He was predeceased by two brothers Arthur and Warren Eaton and a sister Emma Eaton Bachofner.
