Obituary:

INMAN HORNER HENDERSON
Once Commissioner of Meigs County to His Reward.

Inman H. Henderson was born in Pleasants county, VA. (Pleasants is now part of WV), on March 14, 1830, dies June 22, 1913 at his farm residence near Spiller, Meigs county, aged 83 years 3 months 8 days.

He was united in marriage to Matilda Prince September 1853, to which union were born 10 children, seven of whom survive, one son and two daughters having preceded him to the great beyond, as did his beloved companion who departed this life in September 1911.
The surviving sons of the deceased are W.B., of Pittsburgh; E.J., of Chicago; C.L., J.W., W.I. Henderson, of Portland.

The daughters are Mrs. W.L. Carson, Ripley, WV., and Mrs. T.W. Sayre, East Liverpool.

Deceased was an old resident of Lebanon township, having moved into his present home about 35 years ago. He was highly respected by all who knew him and possessed the confidence and esteem of those who knew him best. He was on numerous occasions honored by elections to office, having held the office of county Commissioner and other positions of minor importance. He became a member of the M.E. church almost 50 years ago and expressed his abounded faith in the God whom he served. His oft-expressed desire was that he might be reunited to his beloved wife who so lovingly shared with him the joys and sorrows of this life for almost 60 years.

For some years past Mr. Henderson has been in failing health and death no doubt came as a welcome relief to his pain-racked body.

His was a long and useful life and he has been called home full of years and honors honestly earned. He might well claim with the Psalmist, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me."

Funeral services were held from the home, conducted by Rev. Faires, at 2p.m. on Tuesday the body was laid to rest in Portland cemetery.

Henderson Family Heritage:

Inman Hendreson had many relatives of notoriety. He was the Great-grandson of Rev. Richard Henderson and Janet (Cleland) Henderson of Berwickshire, Scotland. Rev. Henderson received his A.M. degree from Glasgow University and was the minister of Blanytre Parish in Scotland for 48 years. They had three sons; Archibald, Richard, and Alexander.

Alexander Henderson immigrated to Virginia around 1756 and became a true statesman with honor and served as a proud member of the House of Burgess.

Other notable descendants of Richard and Janet include Archibald Henderson - the longest-serving Commandant of the Marine Corps serving from 1820 to 1859, Thomas Henderson (General Assembly), George Washington Henderson of the Henderson Plantation in Williamstown, WV; and of this historian's family, the Rev. Jimmy Davis of Savannah Tn - a retired school principal and preacher of the Word, and Jimmy's brother Dr. Bob Davis - a full time evangelist and charter member of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV).

Any descendant of this great Henderson name should stand tall and wear a coat of honor in respect for their ancestors, for this is indeed a family of great notoriety in the life of our great nation. God bless our ancestors!
