George was a Veteran World War 11 and He passed away peacefully at the West Haldimand General Hospital on December 24, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband for 62 years of the late Violet (2005).

Fondly remembered by daughter Gillian and husband Ron BROWNE of Caledon and son John and his wife Joanne of Cayuga. Proud Poppa and Grandpa of Nigel, Drew, Tara (Darren) and Stacey (David).

Dear Great-grandpa of Jaxon, Spencer, Ayva, Haley and Charlotte. Brother of Jean ABERCROMBIE and the late Max ABERCROMBIE (Joan.) Brother-in-law of Joyce and John TURNER, England.

George will be greatly missed by his dear friend Flo and many cousins, nieces, nephews and Friends. George was a veteran of World War 11, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers attached to the 4th Light Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment.

He landed in France on D-Day and was the recipient of the Croix De Guerre with Palm in Belgium. George retired from the Ministry of Transportation after a long career as Driver Examiner and later Supervisor.

He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving as Past President of both Branch 32, Meaford and Branch 159, Cayuga. He served as District B Zone Commander and Poppy Chairman and was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal.

George was a dedicated volunteer to his community serving as Town Councillor in Meaford and Cayuga. He was a member and Past President of the Cayuga Lions Club; member and Past President of the Kinsmen Club of Meaford and Cayuga, member and former Captain of the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department.

He was actively involved with the Senior Citizens and with the local service clubs supplying and delivering Christmas Gift Baskets.

George was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award and in 1999, he received the Governor General's "Caring Canadian Award." for his voluntary contributions.

Visiting is at the Hyde and Mott Chapel Of R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes Ltd, 60 Main St. S. Hagersville on Friday Dec 28, 2007 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

A Legion Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday December 29, 2007 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. George's final resting place will be with his wife Vi at Lakeview Cemetery, Meaford at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to the "Poppy Trust Fund" Ontario Command, 89 Industrial Parkway North, Aurora, Ontario L4G 4C4
