Mary Grace Brown died of congestive heart failure on January 6th, 2016, surrounded by family, at her beloved home in Rocklin, CA.

One of her favorite things to do in latter years, was to gaze out onto her expansive back yard, with its oak tree lined creek at the bottom of the yard.

Long ago, Mom planted Calla Lilies and they still bloom today. She would watch deer and wild turkey graze and forage; often coming up close to the large glass doors in the back of the house. On the day Mom died, three deer appeared in the late afternoon. A stag, doe, and their young offspring, slowly meandered up from the creek and lingered close to her back windows. Even as family surrounded her and our little doggie "Jones" barked, the deer lingered for close to two hours; still and unafraid.

Mom was born on July 4, 1932 in Sacramento, CA, to Fred and Mildred Andress. They called her their "Little Firecracker". She was the youngest of three girls; her sisters Renee and Barbara. When Mom was a toddler, the family moved to Fairfax, Marin County, CA where she attended kindergarten through high school. She graduated from Tamilpius High School, in 1950.

At "Tam", she met the love of her life, our father, Donald Grant Brown. They married a couple of years after high school and were together for 27 years until Dad's passing in 1979.

Mom and Dad lived in the Bay area until 1958, when they moved to Las Vegas, NV. They moved to Sacramento in 1965; moving about a year later, to Rocklin, CA, where Mom lived for the rest of her life.

Mom was a beauty queen at Marin Junior College, a model for I Magnins in San Francisco, and worked in sales for Macys in her middle years.

Mom was a talented artist and passed on a love of the arts to her children. On their honeymoon, at Lake Tahoe, Mom and Dad came upon a small lot for sale. They paid 10 dollars down and 10 dollars a month for that little spot, which seemed like a stretch for them at the time. Each summer, we would pack up the car and drive up to Tahoe to work on a little A-frame cabin. We and our many extended family members spent many idyllic summers, in our cabin at Tahoe.

Mom found one of her greatest joys nurturing and wrangling my little sister Bonnie, my brother Mark, and me. We always felt loved, and supported in any of the endeavors we chose.

Mom was emotionally strong, and able to transcend the tough times as well as savoring the sweetest times.

Mary Grace Brown is survived by her older sister Renee Holmes of Sacramento, CA, her daughter, Bonnie Doughty and son-in-law Jim, of Auburn, CA, son Mark Brown and daughter-in-law, Jean Marie of Long Beach, CA, son Matthew Brown and daughter-in-law, Diane Suzuki of Los Angeles, CA, and two grand children, Cauleen and Ellie Doughty of Auburn, CA.

We will love and miss you forever Mom. You have left us too soon. A private Memorial will be held at Echo Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to celebrate Moms' life. A place where our extended family spent many joyful summers.
