Robert Lee "Bob" Apple, 66, of Bloomington, died Saturday at Bloomington Hospital.
Born May 30, 1931, in Monroe County, he was the son of Gilbert L. and Flossie A. (Rager) Apple. He was raised by his grandparents, Louis and Ethel Rager. He worked in the accounting department of RCA for more than 37 years, and he was chaplain and radio operator for the Perry-Clear Creek Volunteer Fire Department and a reserve deputy for the auxiliary police in Bloomington.
His volunteer work also included the Area 10 RSVP Borrowed Time Club and Redcoat volunteer at Bloomington Hospital. In 1996, he was named the Volunteer of the Year for Monroe and Owen counties. He was also a member of the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, the Melody Makers and was treasurer for the Crusin' Classic Car Club.
Survivors include his wife, Velma (Patton) Apple; one daughter, Debbie Presnell of Tampa, Fla.; one half brother, Gilbert L. Apple Jr. of Bloomington; two grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Ellsworth officiating. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church building fund.
