OBITUARY--PAINTER

Martha Jane Loring was born in Grant county, Indiana, February 10, 1840 and died in Goodland, August 30th, 1920, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 20 days. She was married to Reasa A. Painter in 1849 [should be 1859?] and to this union two sons were born, one dying in infancy and the other, Samuel Edward Painter, dying September 29th, 1897. She came with her husband to Sherman county in the spring of 1889 and settled on a homestead, where they resided until his death in 1894. After which she moved to Goodland, where she lived until her death. She united with the Christian Church very early in life and lived a conscientious Christian life until the end. She is survived by two grandsons, Roland Earl and Orton Roscoe Painter, and one great grandson, Howard Edward Painter, residing in Colorado, and three half-sisters and three half-brothers, all of whom reside in the east.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church on Tuesday, August 31st, at 2:00 o'clock and were conducted by Luther Moore, pastor of the church. Interment was made at the Mennonite cemetery where her husband was buried. Grandma Painter has entered into rest but the influence of her noble Christian life will long live in the hearts of her many friends who will mourn her loss.
