Mr. Thomas Ciarlo, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 25, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Nancy (Buscimi) Ciarlo.
Thomas was born in Waterbury on November 20, 1926, son of the late Tommaso and Martina Ciarlo. Prior to his retirement, Thomas was employed as a Machinist at the former Waterbury Farrel Foundry. Thomas proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he earned the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He honored his brother Babe, also a WWII veteran, by contributing to the PBS documentary “The War” alongside his sister Olga.
Growing up in Waterbury, he loved to play baseball and was a member of the Corado Club Bowling League for many years. He was an avid fan of Frank Sinatra’s music and a collector of his memorabilia. For almost forty years he spent summers with his wife and family at their house on the lake.
He is predeceased by his brothers Corado (“Babe”) and Domenic Ciarlo and his sister Victorina Castaldi. Besides his loving wife, Nancy, of 63 years of Wolcott, he leaves two sons Ronald Ciarlo and his wife Kathy of Durham, Corado Ciarlo and his wife Ann Laurie of Northfield, a sister Olga Ferrara of Waterbury, three grandchildren Ryan, Kristen and Laura Ciarlo, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Calling hours for Thomas Ciarlo are 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Funeral is 9 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home to St. Michael's Church, Waterbury, for Mass at 10. Burial with military honors in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Ciarlo died June 25.
