Francis W. Glenister, 89, formerly of Oswego, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls. He had been a resident of the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls, since December of 1994.
He was born in Oswego July 15, 1906, the son of Francis W. and Fannie Whiffen Glenister. He received his high school diploma from the Mexico Academy, Mexico, N.Y., and graduated from the Practical Bible IVaining School in Johnson City in 1928. He had served as a Baptist minister to churches in South Hannibal, Poland, N.Y., and Penn Yan during the 1930s and 1940s.
He worked at the YMCA in Schenectady as a night clerk before his retirement from active employment. He returned to Oswego to live after his retirement, where he had resided until 1994.
His first wife was the former Gladys Rolland of Johnson City. His second marriage was to Editha Burroughs of Schenectady, who preceded him in death in 1976.
Surviving are one son, Robert Glenister of Stafford Springs, Conn.; three daughters, Ruth Glenister, Althea Glenister, and Mrs. Herbert (Doris) Trewett, all of Poland; two brothers, Kenneth Glenister of New Haven and Ralph Glenister of Pulaski; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sons, Donald and David Glenister; two brothers, Raymond and Gerald Glenister; and a sister, Althea Delong, formerly of the Oswego-Mexico area.
A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 19, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Oswego. Interment will be in Schenectady in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, East Fourth and Utica streets, Oswego.
Local arrangements were in care of Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
