Atwater resident Margaret Davis died on June 23, 2016 at the age of 83. Margaret was born on March 8, 1933 in Independence County, Arkansas to her parents Ruth Hickman and Harry Caplener. Margaret was the second youngest of 9 children. During the time of the Dust Bowl, Margaret and her family migrated to Chowchilla, California. Margaret graduated from Merced High in 1949.
On April 25, 1952, Margaret married Richard "Chet" Davis while stationed in Denver, CO. Margaret and Chet were married for 61 years before Chet passed away in 2013. Together they had four children; Lynn, Gordon, Scott and Janis. During her life, Margaret worked as a telephone operator, dry cleaner, and a letter carrier for the US Postal Service.
Margaret enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She was known for being hard-working, determined, honest, kind, meticulous, family oriented and social. Margaret enjoyed attending church at the Church of Christ in Atwater, CA.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn, grandchildren, Jimmy, Jennifer, Lacey, Michael, Travis and Jessica, and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, daughter Janis Davis, grandsons Jeremy Kirby and Eric Davis, son Gordon Davis, husband Chet Davis and son Scott Davis.
A viewing will be Friday, July 1, 2016 from 9AM-10:45 AM at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Atwater. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM following the viewing at the Church of Christ in Atwater, CA with burial following at Winton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Church of Christ in Margaret's name.
