Wayne Field, Well-known Minneapolis entrepreneur died Tuesday after a short fight with cancer. He was 87 years old. During his life, Wayne formed over 50 corporations in 21 states, sat on the Boards of an equal number, ran for Governor of Minnesota in 1958 and championed just about every major fund raising organization in the Twin Cities area. Heritage of Edina, Inc., his flagship organization, is one of the many legacies he leaves behind. Heritage is the oldest and largest privately held Assisted Living facility in Minnesota. Most of the key staff have been employed by Wayne for at least 20 years, some 30 and 40 years. That kind of loyalty speaks for itself. Wayne was a marvel; an eternal optimist, a lover of culture and an adventurer in life. He climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro for the second time at age 80; was the oldest man to ride down Pike's Peak on a bicycle, wrote hundreds of poems and, as a "poet of the common man," was once nominated to be Minnesota's poet laureate. He was known and loved by thousands of people around the world; to astronauts and Heads of State, to artists, athletes and taxi cab drivers, Wayne was a friend and supporter. He is survived by his wife, Maria of Edina; brother, Robert Field of Palm Springs, CA; sons, David Field of Edina and Craig Field of Burnsville; daughter-in-law, Diane Field of Bloomington; step-children, Jody Fuller of Tokyo, Japan, Kathryn Nordberg of Edina, and Beth & Scott Olson of St. Louis Park, and grandchildren, Katie and Jon Field, Trent and Claire Olson, and Sophia, Erik, Elsa and Meredith Nordberg. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1 from 1-4 PM at The Roybet, 3420 Heritage Drive, Edina, with a Memorial Service on Monday at 10 AM at The Rembrandt, 3434 Heritage Drive, Edina (952-920-9145). Wayne was still working as he left us. His last project is Erik's Ranch, Inc., a non-profit organization providing living opportunities for young adults with Autism. As he wished, please forego flowers and instead direct any gifts in his memory to Erik's Ranch, Inc, 7712 Gleason Rd, Edina, MN 55439.
