He was born Charles Franklin Pritchard on January 2, 1936 in Kenova, WV. He was adopted at age 5 and raised by Benjamin F. and Virgie Conn West. He married Viola A. "Toots" Smith on October 29, 1966 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2004.

He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Dan) West Taylor in Arkansas and Crystal West, McQueeney, TX; a son, David (Cynthia) West, McQueeney; two grandchildren, Lisa Marie Foor and Joseph Franklin Foor, and a great-grandson, Dylan Foor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a driver and mechanic for Dohrn Transport for 15 years. He then was a custodian for Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 for 15 years. He worked primarily at Steele and Silas Willard Elementary Schools. He retired in 2001.

He first moved to Galesburg in 1942. He lived in California for a number of years and returned to Galesburg first in 1953 and then in 1961. He attended Galesburg High School. He volunteered for many charitable organizations in Galesburg. He was a devoted friend and an avid fisherman. He will be loved and remembered by all at Steele and Silas Willard Schools. And remember: Willard Wildcats and Mr. West say "Polite is Right".

He served in the United States military.
