His Mother died when he was very young and on her deathbed her Sister, LuSinda promised to take care of him and to raise him as her own. She did just that. He did live some with his Father but for the most part he was with LuSinda's family "The Jones'" Which is why he is Uncle Ancil to us. I did not know him to be anything else till I was an adult and got into doing genealogy.
Uncle Ancil was married first to Meda Helen Richards on October 28, 1917 in Polk County, Missouri.
They had two children: Sterlin Harmon Fisher and Goldena May.
He married a second time to Bernice Exie Cole on June 14, 1936.
And from this marriage we got Cousin Wanda.
My memories of Uncle Ancil and Aunt Bernice are fishing on the Sacramento River or out on a lake. Playing Rummy "Cards" and some card game for pennies. They made my Grandparents happy and I heard my Grandpa laugh the most often when they were around. My Grandpa Curtis Jones was LuSinda's oldest boy and he was raised with Uncle Ancil. They were a few years apart and thought of each other as Brothers. I saw my Grandpa cry for the first time when he told us Uncle Ancil had passed away.
So to me Uncle Ancil means going fishing and having a good time on the river, playing Rummy and getting lots of pennies.
