WYNNE, Robert Wade, 90, formerly of Hampton, departed this life June 26, 2016, at home in Ashland, Va. He was born to Richard and Georgianna Wynne on February 6, 1926 in York County, Va. The youngest of seven children, Bob learned from an early age to love family above all else. He served as a member of the Army Air Corps during WWII, earning three bronze stars for his service and later served as a Military Policeman Reserve. He met the love of his life, Ethel Edgerton Wynne and married in 1953. Most of his working life was spent at the Daily Press, where he cultivated a love for reading the newspaper that would last his entire life. Throughout his life Bob never believed in sitting still. He traveled to 48 states with his bride, took a morning walk every day, played golf three times a week, was an active member of 1st Christian Church in Hampton and tended his own garden. He was always interested in keeping up with friends and family, especially activities of his two children and four grandchildren. If they were interested in something, he was as well. He truly embodied the spirit of the Greatest Generation. He is survived by his bride of 63 years, Ethel; daughter, Jane Wynne Jennings, son-in-law, David Jennings; daughter, Anne Wynne Jewett, son-in-law, Charles Jewett; and grandchildren, David and Will Jennings, Jimmy and Lee Jewett; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Wynne Family Cemetery in York County.
