Dr. Callaway was born in Milledgeville August 15, 1858 to Leondias N. and Emily K. Callaway. He graduated from Mercer University in 1877 and then began to study medicine. He graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City in 1881 and returned to Milledgeville to practice. In 1882 he married Bessie Lee Fleming They had two sons - Leon and Thomas. He was a member of the Masonic Order, State Medical Association and the Baptist Church. Dr. Callaway died May 17, 1909 and is buried in Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville along side his wife who died Aug. 22, 1922..
