Mrs. Mary Jane Lee One of Paris Oldest Residents Dies at her Home Here.
Funearl services for Mrs Mary Jane Lee aged 84, were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at her home with the Rev. E.S. Elliott pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery with Jacobs-Dever funeral home in charge.
Mrs. Lee (Aunt Mary as she was known to many) died at her home Sunday March 16, following a short illness. She was born November 6, 1850, near Paris and had made her home here during her entire lifetime. She was converted to the Christian religion in early life and united with the Missionary Baptist Church many years ago. Everyone knew her as a lovable and christian old lady and her close neighbors loved and respected her for her pleasing personality and sterling character.
As Mary Jane Craig she was married to John C Lee on January 21, 1868. He preceeded her in death December 29, 1885. To this union was born eight children, two are dead. The surviving children are four daughters, Mrs. Norman Towery, Tahlequah Oklahoma, Mrs. Will Posey, Arkadelphia, Mrs. Row Bower, Hot Springs, and Mrs. Ross Wallace of Paris and two sons M. F. Lee of Dodge City Kansas and H. N. Lee of Paris. All of the children except M. F. Lee were here for the funeral.
