The death year of 1888 is incorrect. Alexander Ferguson's Madison County, IL probate papers prove he died May 5, 1877 in Madison County, IL (probably rural Madison County and not in the town of Godfrey as his will did not state he was a resident of Godfrey. Alexander Ferguson was first married Oct. 20, 1830 at Bath, NH to Ann Eliza Gould (1810-1862) and they had eight children. Alexander Ferguson of Madison County, IL executed a will Dec. 4, 1869. In this will he noted “I desire to be decently buried beside my first wife, Ann Eliza Ferguson who was ever loving and kind, but now deceased.” He left to his current wife, S. Marcella Ferguson $2,000 (in payments over 3 years after his death), or the option of choosing her third interest in the estate payed semi-annually by his executor “so long as she remains my widow.” He also left her all his household goods except the melodeon, family bible and library. He named eight children, all by his first wife, seven of whom were still living.

In his will Alexander left equal shares to six children: Ann Eliza Waggoner, Helen Waggoner, George Rodney Ferguson, Laura Jane Ferguson, Henry Marcellus Ferguson and Mary Luthera Ferguson. He also left $10 to the heirs of his daughter, Finette Francis Meldrum, deceased, and to his son Solon Scott Ferguson “the sum of ten dollars or the very smallest amount that the law allows. My son Solon Scott Ferguson has been paid all that he in any way helped to earn.” Alexander's second wife, Susan Marcella (Sprague) Bailey (1828-1907) died and is buried in Denver, CO.
