LUCAS: ANNA KATHLEEN (TYSON) FULTON of rural Lucas, died after a courageous battle with cancer on July 3rd, 2016 in the company of her daughters for whom she lived.
Ann was born April 25, 1941 in Columbiana, Ohio to George and Kathryn Tyson. She attended Berea City Schools and graduated from North Central State College. Her early working years were in the restaurant industry, in which she advanced to a manager with the Marriott Corporation. In 1975 she pursued a career in school food service, first at Lucas Local Schools and then retiring from Pioneer Joint Vocational School in 2002 as Culinary Arts Instructor and Food Service Director. She believed strongly in the value of vocational education and worked tirelessly to advance culinary arts as a career for her students; a number of whom went on to work as chefs at multi-star restaurants and on cruise ships.
Ann was president of the Ohio School Food Service Association and was the driving force behind state-wide training forums. She was also a leader in the effort to establish a Lucas Branch Library.
In the late 1970's and through the 1980's she fulfilled her dream of learning to paint and play the piano. She won numerous awards for her oils, including Best of Show at the Ohio State Fair. Her still life oils and landscapes hang in many Ohio homes.
She was a 40 year member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church where her impact can be seen in the flowers she donated from her gardens, her original oil painting located in the back of the church, and a myriad of other decorating decisions that anyone who knows her well would know she coordinated down to the last detail.
Her daughters Renee, Gina and Becky, as well as her grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was most happy on her farm, sharing her beautiful gardens with her family and friends, and in her later years her "adopted" college student kids who came to live with her on the farm and regarded her as a second mom.
Ann loved to travel, especially to Rockport, Mass. on the ocean, where she vacationed numerous times over the years.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Arthur A. Rossi, her parents, step-mother Helen Tyson, step-father Vincent Czarniewski, brother George Tyson Jr., sister-in-law Theresa Tyson, and her beloved in-laws Merle and Mary Jane Fulton.
Those living on with loving memories of Ann include her daughters, Renee (Steve) Smith, Battle Creek, Michigan, Rebecca (David) Gongwer Mansfield, and Gina (Aloys) Kamwithi, Lucas, with whom she had made her home during the long ordeal which cancer brings.
Also surviving are sisters, Billy Tyson, Sherrall Sadler, Lynn (Martin) Rosenberg, brothers Terry and Greg Tyson as well grandchildren, Sarah, Steven and Matthew Smith and Michael Kisling and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends, Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. in Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, 2769 Pleasant Valley Road, Lucas, Ohio, 44843, where her funeral service giving glory to God for the life of Ann Fulton will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. Pastor David Aune will officiate.
She will be interred at the Highpoint Fulton Family Cemetery overlooking the farm she loved so dearly.
