In Commemoration of William C. Hartmann III, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a man of intelligence, craftiness, wisdom and lore, who held first a love of his family.
William C. Hartmann III was the son of Lillian T. Heft and William C. Hartmann, Jr.. He was born June 28, 1933, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He attended Hall of Divine Child Military Academy in Monroe, Michigan, Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Michigan and General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He served in the military in the Navy aboard troop transport carrier, U.S.W.A. Mann.
Bill and Constance F. Kunkel were married May 11, 1957, in St. Michael's Church, Livonia, Michigan. From this union came 3 children, William C., Mary C. (Mark) and Elizabeth C. (Andrew), 5 Grand Children, Christopher (Laura), Andrew, Nicholas, Olivia, Gabriel and 1 Great Grandchild, Arthur.
Bill retired in 1986 after serving General Motor's Corporate Staff in Procurement for 33 years. Always Civic minded his civic activities were many. He served as President, Vice President and Treasurer in Coventry Gardens Civic Association, Livonia, Michigan, President of Lincoln Elementary School PTA, Livonia, Michigan, Advisor Boy Scouts, Northville and Livonia, Michigan, Advisor Junior Achievement, Northville, Michigan, President Northville Swim Club, Northville, Michigan and Head of Neighborhood Watch, Ft. Myers, Florida.
He served on Hudson, Michigan's City Council where he instituted Policy 98-01, Fence Ordinance 330, Sign Ordinance 323 and City Manager's Contract. He and Constance lived in Hudson for 18 years where they lovingly restored their 1845 Greek Revival home and then placed it on the National Register of Historic Places in Washington D.C..
Our loved one, William, died on October 15, 2014, in Hospice of Lenawee in Adrian, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. When you think of him, remember him with a smile.
