The Miami Republican, Paola, Kansas,
Friday, June 25, 1937:

Doty - O. E. Doty, age 70, died Monday, June 21, 1937, at his home, 1018 East Wea street. He had been in poor health some years and Bright's disease took a firmer hold on him two weeks ago.

Oscar E. Doty was born Aug. 8, 1866, at Sterling, Ill. He came with his father to Kansas when eight years old, his mother having died a few months before. They located at Neosho Rapids, Lyon county, and a few years after moved to near Waverly, in Coffey county.

Mr. Doty was married to Louise Jane Dorman Mar. 10, 1895. To them were born four children: Mrs. Edna McCullough, Neodesha; Oscar Guy Doty, Paul E. Doty and Fern P. Doty, of Paola. Two sisters also survive: Mrs. Olive Smith, Independence, Kan., and Mrs. Kate McCray, and seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Doty, Roger Doty and Terrill Doty, Mari-Lou, Harry Paul, John, and Carol McCullough.

Mr. and Mrs. Doty moved to Paola Feb. 9, 1910, and this town has since been the family home. Mr. Doty was brought up in the Presbyterian church, later joining the Methodist church. His nature won him many friends. He was marshal of Paola a number of years, serving faithfully and well. He was especially friendly to boys and as an officer called upon Boy Scouts, teaching them to direct traffic on busy days. Many parents in Paola became friends of Mr. Doty because of kindly interest he showed as an officer in their children. Oscar Doty was devoted to his family, and was loyal to his friends. There is genuine regret because of his leaving.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home by Dr. Leonard N. Kent, of the Presbyterian church. Ralph Gift sang "Face to Face" and "Perfect Day" accompanied by Mrs. C. E. Conley. Bodybearers were Herbert Stockwell, Charles E. Steele, Darwin Ahrens, Frank Marcham, W. J. Fleming and Frank L. Tomlinson. Mrs. Dan Aul, Mrs. Fred Courter, Mrs. Clarence Fort, Mrs. George Quimby and Mrs. E. E. Young had charge of the flowers. Burial was in the Paola cemetery."
