Sadly, Justin Cody Barker left this world unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. He was a beloved father, son, brother, and friend.
Residing in Palms Springs, CA, he leaves behind his pride and joy, his two beautiful daughters, Sofia Analisse and Serena Michelle Barker. Justin also leaves behind his parents, Larry Barker and his wife Sherry, and Michelle Sheffield and her husband Joe, along with his four siblings, James Barker, Jennifer Heiner and husband, Wade, John Barker, Little Joe Sheffield and Two stepsisters, LaRay Dobransky and Callie Barton. Grandparents, Calvin and Dorothy Blackman. Nieces, Paige and Avery Heiner and girlfriend Araceli Corona. His infant son, Brody Ray Barker proceeded him in death, along with his paternal Grandmother, Ann Lay.
Justin was born at home on May 4, 1988, in Georgetown, Texas. He was baptized and received the sacraments at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Corn Hill, (Jarrell,Tx). Growing up he had a love for the outdoors, bonfires and hunting. He even tried his hand at cooking. He was a graduate of Jarrell High School where he was a part of the football and track teams. Soon following, Justin enlisted in the U.S.M.C. stationed in San Diego, CA, where he proudly served our country. He belonged to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion out of Twentynine Palms, California, and toured Iraq and Afghanistan while deployed.
Justin received the following decorations, medals, badges, citations and Campaign Ribbons: Rifle Expert Badge (3rd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2nd Award), Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Letter of Appreciation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Mas, National Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3rd Award)
Justin had remained a loyal friend to his band of brothers even after leaving the Marines Corps. It’s true what is said, that the battle scars are not always just on the outside but they are deep within at times. Justin always made time to help his fellow veterans in need. Justin was an outstanding, loving, and dedicated father to his little girls Sofia and Serena Michelle.
While attending College of the Desert in Palms Springs, he was in the process of getting a degree in business in order to turn around and once again serve with his band of brothers at the V.A. He was proud of his accomplishments at school and was a member of the Students of Veterans Organization.
He was recognized academically by being on the Dean’s List at the College of the Desert in Palm Springs, Calif.
Justin was a true hero and with a heart of gold. He will be forever missed, never forgotten, and will always remain in our hearts. May our Heavenly Father surround him with His eternal love.
We love you, Justin! May your soul rest in peace!
