EAST LONGMEADOW - Ruth V. (Phair) Carter, 66 of 79 Pleasant St., retired 15-year secretary for Sand Vik Co. in Springfield, died Tuesday in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield. She retired in 1985. Born in Lawrence, she lived in Agawam for 20 years before moving to East Longmeadow two years ago. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in West Springfield. She leaves a son, James R. Carter of San Diego; a sister Phllis M. O'Dowd of Agawan, and a grandson. There will be a memorial service Tuesday in the church, with burial in Billings Hill Cemetery at the family's convenience. Hafey East Longmeadow Chapels is in charge. Memorial contributions my be made to the American Cancer Societ, 57 Suffok St., Holyoke, 01040.
