James R. Anderson, age 62, beloved brother, uncle, and great uncle of Manitowoc, found peace on Friday, July 8, 2016.
James was born in Two Rivers on October 4, 1953, son of the late Rudolph A. and Opal G. (Bonack) Anderson. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and was a 1971 graduate of Washington High School, Two Rivers. James furthered his education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Green Bay for a number of years; Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Manitowoc County for seventeen years; and most recently was employed as manager of Artist Loft Apartments in Manitowoc.
James had a love of nature and was an avid fisherman his entire life. One of his passions was Community Service, as well as being a great humanitarian. He was involved with Friends of the Manitowoc County Courthouse & funding for the Courthouse Restoration; he was instrumental from the very beginning of developing "The Haven" - A Men's Homeless Shelter, and served on it's Board of Directors. James was the chair of the Harbor Commission; he served as fund raiser for the Spirit of the Rivers Project; and was very involved in the Lake Michigan Wisconsin National Maritime Sanctuary.
James is survived by three sisters: Marsha Anderson & husband, Mark Waterman of Palo Alto, CA, Cheryl Anderson of Milwaukee, and Marilea Anderson of Green Bay; several loving nieces and nephews which include: Joshua (Sara) Peterson, Dr. Ryan Yakowicz, A.J. Anderson-Yakowicz, Goddaughter - Rachel Peterson; and great-niece, Wren Peterson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Cindy, and a nephew, Erik Anderson-Yakowicz.
The family of James R. Anderson will greet relatives and friends for a memorial visitation at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St. in Two Rivers on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
